When I was a little girl, I was bold and daring, I loved to climb trees and be adventurous. I was fearless. I stepped out on the skinny branches with complete confidence, certain I could change the world. Then when I grew up, I became more cautious, concerned I would fail or get hurt, so I stayed close to the middle of the tree where the trunk is thicker. I played it safe. I held back. Like women often do, I hid my strength. It’s true in the workplace just as it is on the playground.
